Updated for 2017

We have been listening to feedback and for 2017 we have made some exciting changes to the Sprinter 16.  We started by upgrading the fork to 6061 Aircraft Grade Alloy, this not only makes the bike lighter, but provides a higher quality product due to an improved manufacturing process.  Continuing with the lighter is better theme we have taken the wheels and made them lighter too dropping from 36 hole rims to 28, still strong enough to handle the roughest of trails, but this is a big weight saving.  Finally to improve the ride experience we switched to sealed bearings in both the hubs and bottom bracket, this will not only provide a smoother ride, but require less maintenance and increase longevity of the bike.

We really enjoy this bike. We wanted a “real” bike for our daughter and this in be fits The bill. The components are great and the bike handles really well. The only problem we’ve had is that the seat was too tall for my five-year-old. She is an average size five-year-old but we ended up having to cut the seatpost a bit so that she ride the bike and touch the ground with her tiptoes. Its a great first bike.

Excellent bike. Looks and feels well thought out, nice components, it’s light – feels like it weighs about the same as the outgrown all steel 12 incher – and it certainly looks cool. Feels sturdy; I think it will last long to pass it down to the younger ones. My daughter’s been enjoyng and flying on this bike since christmass, before turning five (taller than average), around trails and the neighborhood. It looks like she’ll be needing the 20 incher sometime in 2018. The saddle on our 2016 model looked like it belonged on a 24 inch wheel bike, but I noticed that’s been corrected on the 2017 model. Still five stars.

    Love this bike!

I have twins who just turned four. My son is very tall for his age — over 42″, and my daughter is on the tall side too, but a couple of inches shorter than him. They’ve been on scoot bikes for ages, and we decided to get them pedal bikes for their birthday.

I got my son a Raleigh 16″ that has an alloy frame, and we had a steel-framed 12″ bike we thought my daughter could use. On their first outing, they both were frustrated by the coaster brakes their bikes came with. It was consistently the thing that would go wrong as they were trying to pedal. I did some research, found this bike, and ordered it.

I wasn’t sure if it would be too big for my daughter as a first bike, as I wanted the seat low enough for her to put her feet down while sitting on it. I wound up cutting down a spare seatpost to allow the seat to go down an extra inch or two.

The bike is beautiful, seems well-made, has much better components than a typical kids bike, and weighs 4 lbs less than even the alloy bike I got for my son. Importantly, it has hand-lever v-brakes rather than a coaster brake. My daughter went from pedaling a short ways at a time, making a pedaling mistake that would activate the coaster brake and stopping on the steel bike, to pedaling full laps of a running track on the sprinter. She also, on her second time out on it, was able to get herself started after a little coaching. My son had to have more coaching about starting out because of the coaster brake on his bike. I’m already considering getting him a sprinter too.

I’m so glad–and so is my daughter–that I found Stampede Bikes, and the Sprinter.

The Bike: The Sprinter hits that sweet spot between cost and quality. The frame was engineered to fit a child – it’s not just an adult bike shrunken down. This puts my son in the ideal riding position for a perfect balance between pedaling efficiency and control to handle basic trail riding. The components are also child-oriented. Brake levers are child size and of good quality, it’s got a real 3-piece crank, the fork is light, yet strong, bearings are sealed, and brake calipers do an excellent job of stopping the bike. It is the perfect bike for a “biking family” on a budget.

Customer Service: I cannot think any higher of the customer service. We had a concern with a misaligned part on the first bike we bought. I sent a message to Stampede asking for help. The customer service rep returned my message, providing his cell phone number in the voicemail, so that we could work things out immediately. When I called, he listened to my concern, and without hesitation, honored the warranty. I mean that literally. I didn’t have to complain or argue; nothing. He just took care of it.

My youngest son was in need of a new bike around this same time. Prior to this customer service experience, I was considering multiple brands. After this customer service experience, I didn’t even think twice about purchasing the new bike from Stampede. They have a customer in me for years to come. You won’t regret doing the same!
